Dr. Roger Pulwarty

Roger Pulwarty serves as the Senior Scientist at the NOAA Physical Sciences Laboratory within the NOAA Office of Oceans and Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado. He brings a wealth of research and institutional experience in climate science, risk management, science policy, and information services to the Advisory Board.

Roger’s research area spans various transboundary basins, including the Columbia River, the Colorado River, the Guadiana (Spain and Portugal), and the Parana-Paraguay-Plata (involving five South American countries), among others. He has spearheaded and directed renowned programs focused on climate science. Notable among these initiatives are the Regional Integrated Sciences and Assessments, the National Integrated Drought Information System, the GEF Mainstreaming Adaptation to Climate Change project in the Caribbean, and the InterAmerican Institute Collaborative Research Network on Eastern Pacific Boundary Currents.

Roger held roles as a convening lead author for various reports, including the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction Global Assessment Reports, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Working Group II, and the US National Climate Assessment. He co-chairs the UN Climate Services Information System Expert Team and leads the White House Subcommittee on Resilience Science and Technology. Additionally, he oversees US reporting on indicators for Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6, particularly focusing on Integrated Watershed Management (6.5.1) and Transboundary Basins (6.5.2).
