Dr. Asim Zia

Asim Zia currently holds the position of Professor of Public Policy and Computer Science at the University of Vermont (UVM) with a secondary appointment in the Department of Computer Science. His diverse roles include serving as the Director of the Institute for Environmental Diplomacy and Security (IEDS), Co-Director of the Social Ecological Gaming and Simulation (SEGS) lab, and Director of the PhD program in Sustainable Development Policy, Economics, and Governance at UVM. Asim also co-founded the Transboundary Water In-Cooperation Network, establishing his commitment to fostering collaborative efforts in addressing transboundary water issues and promoting sustainable water management practices worldwide.

Asim's research focuses on understanding and modeling complex public policy and governance challenges associated with the environment, encompassing water, air, climate, energy, food, and sustainable development. His research spans various regions globally, ranging from the management of the Lake Champlain basin in Vermont to conservation initiatives in tropical forests across Peru, Vietnam, and Tanzania. Moreover, his expertise extends to studying resilience in expansive river basins such as the Indus, Mekong, and Amazon.
