Alphonso (Fonz) Smith-Waupoose
Fonz Smith-Waupoose is a master’s student from the Menominee Indian Reservation in Northeast Wisconsin. He is pursuing a dual-degree in Environmental Justice and Environmental Policy & Planning from the University of Michigan’s School for Environment and Sustainability. Fonz’s research focuses on the ethics of transboundary water treaties in the Great Lakes region from a law and policy perspective, and their implication on indigenous land and water rights. As a recent graduate from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, he holds a B.S. in Philosophy with a concentration in Religious studies, minors in Environmental Studies, Environmental Ethics and a certificate in Environmental Justice. In his spare time, Fonz enjoys playing and coaching volleyball, comic books/movies, and listening to live music outdoors.
