Dr. Edda Mutter
Edda Mutter brings to the Advisory Board a wealth of experience honed through her tenure as the Science Director at the Yukon River Inter-Tribal Watershed Council (YRITWC). At YRITWC, she oversees the Indigenous Observation Network, a community-driven science initiative dedicated to monitoring water quality, conducting snow surveys, and actively monitoring the layer dynamics across the expansive Yukon River Watershed.
Edda’s research within the Yukon River Watershed revolves around understanding the movement, impact, and destiny of contaminants within soil, permafrost, and aquatic ecosystems, with a focus on their implications for water quality. Her recent work, "Community-Based Monitoring as the Practice of Indigenous Governance: A Case Study of Indigenous-led Water Quality Monitoring in the Yukon River Basin," underscores her dedication to empowering Indigenous communities and forging pathways to reinforce Indigenous water governance for Alaska Tribes and First Nations.
